How a Disability Review Can Affect Your Benefits

Once the SSA awards disability benefits to someone, they then review the recipient’s medical condition to make sure they still meet the administration’s definition of disabled.

If the Social Security Administration determines that a recipient’s condition is likely to improve over time, the SSA will review the recipient’s condition within 6 to 18 months after he or she begins to receive benefits.

If the recipient’s condition is determined to have a chance of improving, the SSA will review the recipient’s condition again at around 3 years from the date they began receiving the benefits.

If the recipient’s condition is not expected to improve, the SSA will review the recipient’s condition again in 7 years after he or she begins to receive benefits.
